Phase 1 audit

  • Audience/Intent: UK trades, small businesses and local service firms looking to understand Wix Harmony, AI search visibility and whether a template is enough.

  • Information Gain, the hard truths: Harmony can help you build and optimise a site; it cannot make a business authoritative. Wix’s AI Visibility Overview measures responses to a set of questions, not your share of every real-world AI search. A custom site is not automatically better than a template; it is better when its structure and content solve real business problems.

  • Core UK keywords:Wix SEO expert, custom Wix website design, Wix Harmony Editor, Wix AI Visibility Overview, Wix GEO tools, AI search for small businesses, local SEO Cardiff.

Short answer: Wix Harmony is an AI-assisted website editor with visual drag-and-drop control and built-in SEO guidance. Its AI Visibility Overview is a separate measurement tool that shows whether selected AI platforms mention or cite your business for a set of questions. Neither tool guarantees a place in AI answers. For a Cardiff trades firm, useful service pages, clear local details, strong reputation and a site built to turn visits into enquiries matter more than pressing an AI button.

What is the Wix Harmony Editor?

Wix announced Harmony in January 2026. It combines AI-assisted website creation with a visual editor, so you can prompt the system to help build a site and then adjust the design and content yourself. Its SEO tools include a guided checklist, AI suggestions for page keywords and descriptions, and controls for search engine indexing.

That is useful for beginners. It does not remove the need to make sound decisions about what your business offers, where you work and why a customer should trust you.

Wix’s Harmony SEO guide recommends setting up your business details and choosing three to five core site topics. For a Cardiff electrician, those topics might include domestic electrical work, inspections, emergency call-outs and the areas served. Keep them specific. “Quality service” is not a useful topic; every competitor says it.

What does Wix’s AI Visibility Overview actually show?

The AI Visibility Overview is a reporting tool in Wix Analytics. Wix’s current help documentation lists ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity as platforms you can check. It generates possible customer questions from your business information and site, then reports how often your website was mentioned or cited in the answers.

That score is not a ranking, a market share figure or proof that customers are asking those exact questions. It is a snapshot of your site’s visibility across a selected set of prompts. Results can vary between tests and platforms.

The overview can also show competitors, sources used in answers, brand perception and traffic from AI platforms. Wix says the feature requires a Premium plan. It also says a site needs at least 50 unique visitors in the previous 30 days before the overview displays data. You can adjust the questions, but tests are limited, so choose prompts that reflect real buying decisions.

Try questions such as:

  • “Who can repair a leaking roof in Cardiff?”

  • “What should I check before hiring a local electrician?”

  • “Which heating engineers serve Penarth and Barry?”

Use the results as clues, not a verdict. If a competitor appears, inspect what information is available about them and where it comes from. Then improve your own service pages and business details. Wix explains the score and its limits in its AI Visibility Overview help guide.

What are Wix’s GEO tools, and do they replace SEO?

GEO stands for generative engine optimisation: making your business and content easier for AI systems to understand, assess and cite. It is not a shortcut around SEO. If your business details are unclear, your pages are thin or your reputation is weak, GEO tools will not fix the underlying problem.

Wix’s tools cover several parts of that work:

  • Harmony’s SEO checklist helps you set up business information, site topics, page keywords, descriptions and headings.

  • AI Visibility Overview lets you inspect mentions, citations, competitors and AI-referred visits.

  • NLWeb can make structured site content available for natural-language queries on eligible sites. Wix says it can be enabled through its SEO and GEO dashboard.

  • LLMs.txt is a proposed text-file format that gives AI systems a concise guide to a site. Availability and controls can vary, so check your Wix dashboard rather than assuming it is enabled.

Wix describes these and other features in its GEO tools guide. Treat technical tools as support, not the strategy. A clear page explaining what you do, where you do it, what the job involves and how a customer can contact you is still the essential work.

Can a standard Wix template keep up, or do trades need a custom build?

A template can be a sensible start. If you have one service, one location and a small budget, a well-chosen template with accurate information may do the job. Templates do not automatically harm rankings. Poor content and a confusing customer journey do.

But a trade business often needs more than a homepage and a contact form. You may cover several towns, offer distinct services, need quote-request flows, or rely on proof such as reviews, guarantees and project examples. If those details are squeezed into generic sections, customers and search systems get a muddled picture.

Standard template

Custom Wix website design

Faster to launch with familiar layouts

Built around your services, locations and enquiry process

Works well for a simple offer

Better suited to multiple services or service areas

Less flexibility as needs grow

More control over page structure and custom functions

Easy to mistake for a finished marketing strategy

Still needs good content, SEO and ongoing care

Custom does not mean complicated. It means making deliberate choices about what each page should help a customer do. As a Wix Legend Partner, Chris Barnbrook has worked with Wix since Cardiff Media began in 2010. Our view is practical: choose a template if it fits; invest in custom work when the template gets in the way of a useful, distinctive site.

How should a small business set up Harmony for AI search?

Start with facts, not prompts.

  1. Complete your business information. Use your real business name, accurate service area, contact details and a plain-English description. If you serve customers at their homes, state that clearly.

  2. Choose a small set of genuine service topics. Create a page for each important service where there is enough useful information to justify it. Do not publish near-identical pages with only the town name changed.

  3. Make each page answer customer questions. Explain what the job includes, who it is for, the areas covered, what affects cost and how to arrange a visit. Use headings that describe the answer beneath them.

  4. Review the AI’s suggestions. Harmony can suggest keywords and descriptions, but it does not know whether a claim is accurate. Check every change before publishing.

  5. Make contact easy. Put your phone number, enquiry route and service area where a mobile visitor can find them. A page that earns an AI citation but generates no enquiries has not done its job.

  6. Check results over time. Review search performance, leads and AI visibility together. A change in one score is not enough to prove that your business is growing.

What should you do next?

If you already use Wix Harmony, complete the business details and SEO checklist before publishing more pages. Then test a handful of buyer-style questions in the AI Visibility Overview, if it is available on your account. Note which competitors and sources appear, and look for gaps in your own information.

If you are choosing a website, do not buy a rebuild just because AI search is in the headlines. First ask whether your current site explains your services, locations and proof clearly, and whether it makes it easy to enquire. If the answer is no, fix that. The best Wix SEO expert will talk about your business and its customers before talking about a tool.
